Personal injury attorney Todd Passman explains slip & fall cases

I’d like to talk briefly about slip and fall cases.

First, we should clarify that while we often call these types of premises liability cases “slip and fall,” the reality is that a great number of the cases don’t necessarily involve slipping on water, or grease, or some other foreign substance on a slippery floor. Many of the cases are trip and falls.

For example, when a business leaves a broken curb right in the path of the customer’s exit from his vehicle, like this one:

Or, when the expansion joint of the sidewalk is allowed to disintegrate and create basically an unseen obstacle which would trip you, like this:

And when you take a look at that same sidewalk when it is dark, you can’t even see it! Or here’s a picture of what you’d call a more usual slip and fall case like this combination of motor oil and water on the floor of the service area of an auto dealership.

Lots of times folks are embarrassed when they’ve suffered a fall in a business, even though it wasn’t their fault. These falls can be very serious accidents. According to the CDC, almost a million people are hospitalized every year for injuries from a fall.

If you suffered an injury from a slip and fall, don’t go it alone. Get someone experienced on your side. If you’d like to talk to us about it. Give us a call at 772-465-9806. We’d be happy to help.

What is Personal Injury Protection (PIP)? Personal Injury Attorney Todd Passman explains.

If you’ve been in a car accident in Florida, you’ve probably heard of the phrase Personal Injury Protection, or “PIP.” What is it?

Florida requires any vehicle owner or head of household that owns a vehicle to carry a minimum of $10,000 in PIP coverage to pay for medical bills and lost wages when there is a car accident. It doesn’t matter who was at fault, your own PIP is going to cover that first $10,000 of medical bills from your accident.

Something that is important to know about PIP inn Florida: PIP has a 14 day rule.

If you don’t seek medical treatment within 14 days of your accident, the insurance company is likely to deny your claim for your PIP benefits.

We suggest that car accident victims seek medical treatment, even if you are not sure if you’ve suffered an injury. Sometimes, a small problem can develop into a much larger disability.

If you’ve been injured in a car accident and have questions about Personal Injury Protection or PIP, give us a call. The number is 772 465-9806.

Should I Hire a Personal Injury attorney?

The question were going to tackle today is: “Okay, I was injured in an accident, but why should I hire an attorney? Won’t I be able to keep a greater percentage of my settlement if I just represent myself?

Here at our office, we think approaching the case that way is a mistake. Think about this: If you decide to go it alone, without somebody in your corner, you’re going to be dealing with an insurance company representative who’s not concerned about your best interests.

Their focus is to move the cases along and dispose of them as cheaply as possible.

Plus, without an attorney in your corner, you’re going to be dealing with an insurance company representative who may be vastly more experienced than you in resolving personal injury cases. So while you’ll be negotiating the one and only personal injury case you’ll ever undertake in your entire life, you’ll be going against someone who has done it thousands of times.

Don’t put yourself at that disadvantage. If you had an accident and you’ve got face-off with the insurance company, give us a call at 772-465-9806. Initial consultations are free, so you’ve got nothing to lose.

What to look for when hiring a personal injury attorney.

You been in an accident. You know you need a personal injury attorney, but how do you choose? What do you look for to decide which attorney is right for you?

I’m Todd Passman, a personal injury attorney here in St. Lucie County.

I believe there are three primary factors to bear in mind when you’re trying to choose a personal injury attorney in Fort Pierce or in Port St. Lucie.

The first is: Do I feel comfortable with this attorney? Does this attorney listen to my problem?

To a certain extent you’re going to have to trust your gut on this. Just like anything else, based on your experience, you want to feel comfortable and you want to be sure that your attorney is listening to what you’re telling him.

Number two: Ask yourself, Will I have my attorney’s personal attention?

Big TV lawyers spend millions and millions every year on television commercials. Some of them then mainly rely on paralegals, secretaries, and call centers even to handle their cases. We take a different approach. I serve my personal injury clients here in Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie at medical facilities, or even on their front porch, because I handle my client’s case personally. It’s something to keep in mind when considering who you want.

Finally, number three: Does the attorney have the experience and skill to deliver results?

I’ve been an attorney for over 20 years and if you are interested in my firm to look at our Google reviews and give us a call. Initial consultations are free our number is 772 465-9806.
